Mid-Century Modern Reimagined
This project was a study in architectural heritage. My goal was to breathe new life into a mid-century icon without erasing its history. By stripping away decades of superficial updates, I uncovered the home’s original intent—linear clarity and an effortless connection to the landscape. I introduced a contemporary palette of white oak, matte walnut and honed marble to bridge the gap between 1950s optimism and 2020s sophistication. The result is a space that doesn’t just look back; it lives forward.

Cabinet Selection: Embracing Timeless Aesthetics for Modern Living
To achieve a kitchen that felt both historic and highly functional, I orchestrated a dual-sourcing strategy for the cabinetry. This wasn’t just about storage; it was about texture, soul, and precision.
-
The Heritage Foundation: I selected deVOL Kitchens for their unparalleled English craftsmanship and timeless aesthetic. Their pieces provide a sense of “furniture-like” permanence that grounds the mid-century architecture.
-
The Bespoke Integration: To solve the unique spatial challenges of the home’s footprint, I designed custom in-house cabinetry. These pieces were engineered to house modern appliances and provide tailored organizational solutions that a standard catalog simply couldn’t offer.
-
The Synergy: By blending these two worlds, I created a kitchen that feels collected over time rather than ordered from a showroom. The precision of our in-house builds meets the storied patina of deVOL, resulting in a space that is as much a gallery as it is a workspace.

Custom Brass and Glass Floor-to-Ceiling Open Shelving
Architectural Elegance meets Transparent Utility
“To maintain the home’s signature open-air flow while creating a sense of transition, I designed a custom floor-to-ceiling shelving unit. This piece acts as a functional sculpture, anchoring the room without closing it off.”
-
Materiality: I chose a hand-aged brass framework to provide a warm, luxurious weight that will patina beautifully over time.
-
Visual Lightness: By utilizing cantilevered glass shelving, the unit appears to float. This allows natural light to permeate the space and ensures that the client’s curated collectibles remain the primary focus.
-
The Intent: This installation serves two purposes: it provides a sophisticated gallery for the inhabitants and acts as a sophisticated ‘screen’ that defines the living zone without sacrificing the mid-century’s hallmark sightlines.
DEVol Kitchens: Handmade Modular Furniture Inspired by Mid-Century English Interiors
At the heart of the home, I orchestrated a sophisticated pairing of deVOL Kitchens and my own custom in-house builds. I specifically selected deVOL’s handmade modular range for its departure from traditional painted styles.
-
The Inspiration: I was drawn to the unpainted oak cupboards, inspired by mid-century English interiors and the nostalgic charm of a traditional gentlemen’s haberdashery.
-
The Hybrid Approach: I seamlessly integrated these modular oak units with custom-crafted cupboards designed in my studio. This allowed me to blend the refined craftsmanship deVOL is renowned for with personalized elements tailored specifically to my client’s needs.
