The Emerald Mirror

Yanqing District | China

“Longqing Gorge feels like a hidden sanctuary. As the boat glides between massive vertical cliffs, you realize how much the landscape dwarfs you. The way the sunlight catches the mist at the peaks while the water remains in deep, cool shadow is exactly the kind of high-contrast challenge that defines the Karst experience.”

Summary

The Karst
Canyon

Documented during a 2014 study, this collection captures the dramatic limestone karst topography of the Yanqing District. Known as the “Little Three Gorges,” the site is defined by a seven-kilometer canyon where vertical marble cliffs create a deep, moody environment. The study focuses on the play of light within these narrow corridors and the surreal juxtaposition of high-tech transit systems—like the massive dragon escalator—against the ancient, eroded landscape.
